Mount Morris is a town in Livingston County, New York perfectly located by the Finger lakes. We have visited many of the Finger lakes and surrounding areas but never this town. I hope you enjoy our weekend trip to Mount Morris, New York.
First let us talk about the town. What a charming “small town” feel yet has four lanes and parking to boot! The shops are a mix of Antiques, Thrift, souvenir trinkets and even a trading card collectable store. I found this beautiful fountain, pictured above, when we strolled the sidewalks one afternoon.
We stayed at the Allegiance Bed and Breakfast. I have nothing but amazingly wonderful things to say about this place. We were celebrating an anniversary and let me tell you; this is the place! Beautiful Victorian styled rooms, lovely gardens, delicious food and so relaxing. The owners are friendly and a well oiled machine when it comes to running this place. I think my favorite part was sitting out on their front porch at night with a nice cup of coffee. Although listen the food here was pretty darn spectacular so that ranks high up on my list of why you should absolutely stay here. maybe a full review of this place would be in order??
Oh, Letchworth State park do I so many opinions about this State park. We actually went here one day to fish. While they have some nice places to do just that ( and we caught and released several). They do not sell bait within the State Park itself ( even though we called to check). So we had to drive to another town and travel back in. This might not really affect everyone, on this trip, it was a bit silly. The waterfalls and hiking trails are worth a trip, if you have not gone though. Also a perfect picnic spot or place to enjoy with family.
I might have mentioned above how we were celebrating an anniversary. Well, I was trying not to “make decisions” this trip. Ya’ll I travel for a living so usually trips are “work” for me…. I just wanted to go and relax without all of life’s little responsibilities and planning etc. The Lumberyard was not my pick and let me tell you it was a TREAT! It is run by a super friendly owner, who by all account is a boss lady doing things right! Our waitress was amazingly gracious, kind and attentive. The food, the food was so good. I know why people keep coming back and have reviewed it so highly. The menu items are on the pricier side. However, the portions you get and quality truly match why that is. The murals are just wonderful. Over all, I have to say this is a MUST for those special occasions or if you want a fancy place to dine. Attire was really laid back although I did dress up a bit.
What is a weekend trip to Mount Morris, New York without a trip to Mount Morris State park and Dam? I have seen several dams on my traveling quests. What I appreciated about this one was you could actually go down and take a tour. They also had trails that even reach to Letchworth State park if you were interested in that kind of thing. They have a great Visitor center, history exhibits and playground area. I’d say check out their tour times and pack a picnic to enjoy this place for an hour or so.
Remember when I said we had to go out and find bait one day? We actually took a drive to Wiscoy Falls just outside Portageville, New York. A great place to visit and or swim if you like the outdoor nature waterfalls type of thing. Which brings me to my last few suggestions if you happen to visit the Mount Morris, NY area. Finger Lake Conesus, Canandaigua, Corning and Watkins Glen are very close by. You could easily take a day trip and enjoy those towns as well. We met another couple who did just that skipped around to the Finger Lakes.
Have you traveled to the Finger lake area?
What are you favorite places to enjoy while in this New York Region?
I must go sometime!
