People often look at my writing “job” and make comment on how amazing it is. About 99% of the time it is. When I am visiting a location, often times, weather can be a serious hinger to getting “THEE SHOT” or capture. I would love to give every area, destination and attraction the very best side of their establishments. On this particular day in New Hampshire, it was not one of those days. Luckily, we had fun exploring an off the beaten path place, the USS Albacore Museum, Portsmouth New Hampshire. Now anyone in the area might consider this a coastal tourist trap but honestly I think it’s worth the visit.
The USS Albacore Museum in Portsmouth New Hampshire is a great place to visit with people of all ages. The Navy tested top-secret features on it, that led to the high-speed silent operation used on modern U.S. submarines.
In all it’s preserved, beached glory you can check it out as well as The Ghost, a tactical vessel (pictured above). What a great rainy day activity if the weather is less than forgiving as it was for a few days on our trip.
Once you have explored the inside of the submarine, take a walk through the gift shop and museum. If you visit on a nice day you can even have a picnic outside and walk through their USS Albacore Museum memorial. I did venture out in the rain when we stopped because I felt it was such a nice addition to the place i wanted to make sure and mention it.
I would highly recommend you add this to your trip even if the weather is nice. When we stayed in Portsmouth, New Hampshire we stayed in the Residence Inn by Marriott. It is such a great location you literally can drive to this museum within minutes. The museum also offers free parking which if you read one of my other New Hampshire articles you might know that can be hard to come by.
