I wrote a huge post about Family-Friendly activities in Buffalo New York and one of the places I mentioned was the Buffalo Museum of Science. We even shelled out extra to enjoy their new exhibit, Antarctic Dinosaurs: The Exhibition. They often have a new theme and exhibit you can explore while in the Museum. I tried to fill this Reasons to visit the Buffalo Museum of Science post, full to encourage you to check them out. It is one of the reasons it has a stand alone write up!
“The best introduction to art is to stroll through a museum. The more art you see, the more you’ll learn to define your own taste.” – Jeanne Frank
When we first took our son to the Buffalo Museum of Science he was much younger. They have done a LOT of work to the building and exhibits since. Floors of fun can be had by many different age groups. I would give yourself a few hours to really enjoy it all. Best part, parking is FREE!
They have several floors of things to look at, interact with and learn about. One of the best things, are the growing artifact collections. That and kids can touch things! Most places children are not allowed to interact with displays and that is not how this place operates. Each time we visit something catches my eye. On this particular visit I enjoyed the Aztec, Egyptian and Cultured pieces. If you are lucky you might even see a real sarcophagus.
Bug Works features all kind of bugs that creep, crawl and fly and their place and purpose in our ecosystem. While my son may not have been as interested in this I felt it was a interesting collection. As an avid gardener these little bugs go in and out of my garden. I am always interested on encouraging more pollinators. He enjoyed the gadget area and construction exhibit. Nothing like trying to operate a crane and stack metal boxes in a pattern.
When my son reached the teenage years it can sometimes be hard to decided if a place will still spark his interests. I am lucky to report this Museum is one for all ages and their yearly membership is extremely affordable. A perfect place to have a picnic or just let your little ones run off some energy.
