Things to do around Canandaigua, New York

Canandaigua, NY

I visited the Canandaigua area in a couples trip setting celebrating an anniversary. Once back, so many people had commented on the Western new York area. I hope this post “Things to do around Canandaigua, New York” will help encourage you to take a trip to this area because you won’t regret it!

Street Art, Canandaigua New York

When entering the Finger Lake area you will spot right away many artsy things. I recall the fire hydrants on the way were a light purple in color. We spotted several murals including the one pictured above. Along with fun little shops here and there selling all sorts of oddities. The views alone were beautiful with even a few small waterfalls road side as we approached.

1837 Cobblestone Inn

We stated at the most beautiful 1837 Cottage Cobblestone Bed and breakfast. I wrote a whole review post on it! It since has changed owners, so I have yet to stay since they took over.  I do feel confident you should have a similar experience if you choose to stay there. We choose this because we wanted to sleep in a bit, not cook breakfast and stay just outside of downtown. It really all depends on the kind of trip you are on when you are looking for different places to stay. I highly recommend a charming Bed and Breakfast.

Exploring the Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park is rather delightful. It houses a 50-acre historic estate with 9 formal gardens, an 1887 Queen Anne-style Mansion, greenhouse complex and Finger Lakes Wine Center to enjoy. I loved the stylish Mansion but nothing beats the orchid or cacti greenhouses ( in my opinion). I think I filled a SD card of just flower pics on our visit. Why not everyone’s cup of tea for those of you who enjoy design and gardening it’s worth a trip!

Letchworth State Park

Take a day trip to Letchworth State Park, New York. The park centers around three major waterfalls within it’s territory. Some cliffs are said to be as high as 600 feet in some places. Wearing appropriate walking attire is vital here. While you could easily drive to each waterfalls they do have plenty of trails to hike. You do not have to climb just walk up and down stone stairways. We enjoy stopping here, when in the area, also a great place to picnic!

Wine Culinary Center in Canandaigua New York

We ate for dinner at Nolan’s on Canandaigua Lake near the Wine & Culinary Center. It was recommended to us by our hosts and I have to say it was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. I even tried something new, per the suggestion of our friendly waitress! Which if you knew me in person is a HUGE feet because I tend to stick to the same items on menus. Cajun swordfish, atop of pasta with clams mixed in some sort of amazing sauces… YUM. The flavor was off the charts and my taste buds are still heated…in a good way 😉🙌🐟.
