Visiting Penn Dixie in Hamburg, NY

I love finding new activities to do with my family, while saving money. Groupon has built themselves to be a money saver website. I head to the Groupon Coupons tab and search by location for deals. They have over 55,000 free coupons from more than 9,000 retailers. These are all well know stores and businesses you already purchase from! Some of the daily deal retailers include Starbucks, Walgreens, Walmart, and Target

While on the website, one day, my friend found Penn Dixie, NY.

I am a member of US Family Guide. All opinions expressed are my own.

My son LOVES collecting rocks and finding fossils. Penn Dixie was a former cement quarry in where visitors can collect and keep Devonian Period fossils including trilobites.

They provide you with a sample fossil sheet. You can bring your own digging equipment. I suggest a bucket, shovel and perhaps gardening rakes.

This place brings together beginning rock hounds and experienced paleontologists alike.

Some of the great fossils you could be lucky enough to find:

Brachiopods – symmetrically shelled filter feeders

Bryozoans – moss animals

Cephalopods – predatory marine molluscs

Corals – colonial and solitary filter feeders

Crinoids – sea lilies

Crustaceans – arthropods such as lobsters and crabs

Gastropods – snails

Ostrocods – tiny crustaceans

Other echinoderms – related to sea stars

Pelecypods – clams Trilobites – extinct marine arthropods

Conodonts – extinct eel-like vertebrates

Fish – primitive

Paleozoic fish

Petrified wood – extinct plants from the

The Groupon for this location gives a two or four person ticket choice.
