Midweek getaway to Buffalo, NY and the Niagara Region

A few weeks back, I took a little mid week escape. I checked in to Microtel by Wyndham which is perfectly located just minutes from the natural wonder, Niagara Falls and less than a half hour from Buffalo, NY. If you visit this area, spend a few days in both areas because they offer so much!!

I’m literally flooding from all the current New York rainfall, wistfully dreaming of going back! From adventures to delicious meals it is the perfect place to just escape!

I received a free stay to help facilitate my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC Regulations.

After settling in, I immediately noticed the modern design of the room. Having a cleanly home away from home is a must (for me), especially when I travel with my family! Best part of the room….hands down….the window seat! Now, I know what you are thinking…WHAT NOW?! In keeping with the wall hung furniture theme this seat saves so much space and hides the air/heating unit (total genus). Such a simple design feature, created a place I found myself using for my suitcase or sitting to work on my laptop.

If you haven’t tried the Griffon House, do it! I was famished after a full day of driving and this was just what I needed! They had my taste buds at Bacon Jam! For dessert we all shared “Half baked cake” and “Love pillows”. Roll out the yoga pants y’all these were scrumptious. Mmmm hmmmm!

As soon as I woke up, the next day, I wandered down to the continental Microtel breakfast. Then we piled into an Uber and headed out before the downpour started. Our agenda? Exploring the Niagara Falls from both the Canadian and New York side.

If you do hop the border check out the fun new attraction by WildPlay Niagara Falls. I was scared to zip line by the Falls but it was beyond worth it!

Just make sure to curve out some time to see the New York side of the Falls. Enjoy all my secrets to the New York side of Niagara Falls here.

We still had a pretty epic day once the rain unleashed. Our Maid of the Mist experience was wonderful and less crowded. I hope to go back and walk the trials pictured above on a not so wet day!

After our full day of adventures, I took a quick afternoon nap and headed off to dinner with our group. SEABAR is FANTASTIC! If you love sushi or seafood this place is for you. Each dish delivered on both presentation and flavors. Our waitress was attentive, friendly and so were the owners!!

On our last day we explored Buffalo, New York. Our first stop was the new Explore & More Children’s Museum. It just opened to the public on the weekends!!

We only had about 15 minutes to do a quick walk through but it was enough to plan a proper visit with my son. They have a water room complete with dryers, a River boat and construction playhouses. The hospital wing gives kids a place to live out their imagination plus this place has THREE floors of educational fun!

For lunch we stopped by the West Side Bazaar. What a unique shopping and dining experience featuring both refugees and immigrants. These local hand crafters put their unique flare on items while training aspiring entrepreneurs the merchant trade. I tried Pad See Ew for the first time it was WONDERFUL! I loved having different cuisines to try out in one location. The only critique was that we do not have one of these fabulous establishments in my hometown!

We also toured the Frank Lloyd Wright Darwin Martin House. Nestled away in downtown, the reconstructed houses perfectly show off the timeless architectural designs. The greenhouse instantly drew me in featuring this stunning sculpture (pictured above) and Orchids. I hope to go back when the new landscape they were planting is flourishing.

Our last stop in Buffalo was listening to music in a old grain silo at Silo City. Musicians from all over play or recite poetry even read in this beautiful accustic atmosphere. It was the perfect way to relax after an adventurous fun filled few days. They also have a bar to sip on some beverages. The theme of the establishment and bartenders reminds me of an artistic spin on Steampunk.

Microtel by Wyndham put together such a wonderful Press Trip. If you visit the area make sure to book a stay at the Microtel on Niagara Falls blvd.  The high rate in repeat customers are well earned because they have such great attention to detail. I have so much to share about my time in the Buffalo and Niagara regions that I will have to write a few more posts to capture it all!
