During Spring Break we decided to try a new location.
Experience new things with my family and we picked Fort Wayne.
Where to stay? We decided to take the advice of some locals and stay at the Ramada Plaza/Hotel Fort Wayne. It was conveniently located near many of the vacation activities we booked as well as by many restaurants for easy meal choices.
I am not going to lie I also enjoy the indoor/outdoor pool they had. The indoor pool was actual heated and we spent every evening swimming around and relaxing our tired feet.
Ready for some things to do? Our hotel was also located near many of these great docks and hiking trails. This one pictured above was at Canterbury Greens. I am not sure if you can fish here but they do have a nice bench to sit and watch nature.
Downtown we found the Botanical Conservatory to be rather delightful! They had a butterfly house we enjoyed although, I am not sure how long it will run for. When it is open you can watch species of butterflies as well as have them land on you. My son always loves these types of things!
We also enjoy the cacti gardens within the Conservatory. So many different types and sizes to photograph. I have so many this whole post could be filled with them if I shared them all!
“Catch” a Tincaps game! I am an avid baseball fan ever since I was a kid. It is so much fun to enjoy that with my son now and watch him fall in the love with the game. Easy parking, accessibility and the Italian sausages are worth a purchase!
Get out on the canals! I had done this in the Finger Lake area and wanted to have my family try this. They were a bit skeptical paddling around a place we had never been. Luckily the staff at Fort Wayne Outfitters hooked us up and were so kind to get us on our way without a hitch. Now, I hear when will our next paddle experience be since they enjoyed it so much. If you decide to go stop under the train bridge and listen as a train goes overhead. A explainable experience but definitely worth it! I would recommend this for older children.
Explore the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo Tour! This is an amazing addition to your family vacation. They have LARGE enclosures that cater to each animal housed there. These animals can roam, wander and fly while you walk around. I also love the Rain forest and all the tropical plants within it. I will be doing a post about all they have to offer because there is too much to add in this post! Great activity for all ages.
The Science Central is another great activity. This is geared to a younger crowd I would say. My son in very into Science and experiments. He really enjoyed the hands on stations. We also loved the fossil, rocks and reptiles area. I think we could have explored all the different specimens they had to be honest.
Fox island may not be on your tourist map but worth a venture if you enjoy the outdoors. We like to hike, walk and explore nature. I would recommend sneakers because some of the trails can become muddy. Stop into the building for gifts, souvenirs, restrooms, kids play area and to pay the $2 donation for using the facility.
