We had the pleasure of hosting a Around the Plate Avocado Party this past weekend! I have to say I was especially excited to host this party because i have never really dipped into Avocados. I am not against them by any means but when I was growing up money was tight. If fruits or vegetables did not come from our garden or a can then chances are I have not tried them! So when I started researching all the great health benefits to avocados I wanted to give them a try. I created some great new recipes you will be seeing in the next few weeks that should have you all running to grab some of these delicious fruits!

I planned a little party for not only the adults but kids too.

This way we could all enjoy new recipes together!

I don’t know if you noticed above but I called an avocado a “fruit”. Yep, before this party I had no idea I assumed it was vegetable.

Some other fun facts:

♥ They contain less than 1 gram of sugar in a 1-oz. serving

♥ you can bake, fry, grill or eat them raw

Avocados are cholesterol- and sodium-free, and more than 50 percent of the fruit’s fat content comes from monounsaturated fats.

You can also use Avocados in smoothies. I considered that for the party but decided there was to much other food to eat and try out. If you are looking for some great drink recipes using avocados check some out here.

We decided to go with frozen margaritas because they fit well with the other recipes. I whipped up a batch and threw it into my freezer before the guest arrived.

I also needed to get the avacodos ready for the Party. How do you tell if a avacodos ripe or how do you ripen an unripe avocado? Simply
put an avocado into a brown paper bag with an apple or banana.

I also started to chop some avocados up for different dips & salsas I wanted to use as appetizers. Then I got to thinking How do you Cut or Slice Avocados?

Be sure to fully wash the fruit before cutting or slicing.

  1. “Place the avocado lengthwise on a secure surface.
*Hint: place a clean dish towel under your cutting board to prevent slipping.
  2. Hold the avocado securely with one hand.
  3. Slice slowly down the center lengthwise around the seed, starting at the narrower end.
  4. Holding the avocado in the palm of one hand, use your other hand to twist and rotate the two halves apart”.
  5. Take a spoon and scoop out the seed.
  6.  From here Dice, chop or puree your avocado

I served Guacamole dip!I will be posting this recipe because it was AMAZING!

Black bean, corn, red onion, tomato, Avocado dip.

Dill dip because I served Cheesy garlic bread!!

Avocado & Lime Grilled Chicken

Then we headed outside for a break.

I think I was suffering from food coma!

Last up was a Lime & Avocado pie. I have to say this was my least favorite recipe. Some people liked it at the party and others hated it.

After the party we had some left overs and I wanted to share some tips on how to keep avocados fresh:

• If you’ve cut or mashed your avocados, like we did, you can also store in an air-tight
container and place int he fridge.

 • When storing in an air-tight container,
make sure to also press clear plastic wrap on the surface before covering to
prevent oxidation.

Big shout out to all the couples who came out, created new recipes, ate avocados and enjoyed this party with us! I had so much fun hosting this because I love trying new foods, new recipes and getting families together! I've never heard of an avocado party before! Another interesting use for avocados is that they are great deep conditioners for your hair ๐Ÿ™‚

The avocados are great in providing good cholesterol. We have avocado shakes every now and then and mix 'em with a bit of sugar to taste better. The food looked all delicious and I'm salivating right now!

I love avocados but usually only have them sliced up in a salad, or with tacos as guacamole. Look slike I need to take my avocados & move out of my comfort zone! LOL
